Artist Patricia Thoma

Patricia (on the left) and me.

Patricia is an artist from Berlin, Germany and is a painter, illustrator and draftsman. You can view her work at www.patricia-thoma.de. Her drawings are a glimpse into a random moment in a stranger’s life. At that instant when a person appears vulnerable and almost bruised she skillfully capture their hidden character in everyday occurrences. In her latest work her drawings can be filled with piles of red meat dripping from meat hooks there is something humorous and ironic about it. It can be because it is colorful or that she is a vegetarian for more than 30 years or just the interesting play of scale and placement of objects and people. For instance in her series “Stories from Seoul, Korea” (37 x 360cm, color pencil and graphite on paper) a severed pig’s head are placed next to a bouquet of flowers (Image 1) or the little boy playing a video game surrounded by meat carcasses(Image 2).
